Keeping up with introducing more and more digital
facilities, Amazon will now take
over part of your kitchen. According to some reports, the firm is working on a
smart fridge.
This device will leverage some of the same technology
equipped in the physical Go supermarkets. The fridge will be able to oversee
the stock level of the items in your fridge and then place an order for you if
you are running low or you are out of anything. However, there are speculations
that these automatic purchases can be made via Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods only
since the e-commerce giants do not
usually like to acknowledge rival services. This restocking functionality is a
bit similar to the Amazon Dash buttons. These had one function: they allowed
you to re-order items when you run low. However, these have been discontinued.
There are also reports that the smart fridge will be
able to look at the ingredients you have and suggest recipes that you can make
with them. Till date, Amazon
has disbursed US$50 million per year on the project and it is not going to
build the fridge itself if things go further. However, there is still the
possibility that it will be shelved.
