To the despair of its customers, Morrisons has announced that it plans to axe its home delivery
service. This is one of its most popular shopping facilities.
The firm advanced that it wishes to remove this service at
50 of its stores located across the UK. This decision is going to affect 1400
employees. They will be moved into other roles at the supermarket or they will
be offered voluntary redundancy. A spokesperson for the company said that at
the beginning of the pandemic, they rapidly grew their home delivery service to cater to the needs of the many customers
who decided to shop online. However, now, with restrictions easing, they have
to adapt again. As such, Morrisons is planning to make some changes to the size
of their e-commerce operations and part of this move is to shut down its home
delivery option in selected stores as from October.
Nonetheless, the firm has advanced that the ability to
deliver to customers’ house will not be affected. The Morrisons
spokesperson said, “As part of this consultation process we will be offering
all hourly paid colleagues within affected stores the opportunity to also apply
for voluntary redundancy. We are consulting closely with Usdaw on all
proposed changes”.
