Whole Foods will charge Amazon Prime members for deliveries

While previously, being an Amazon Prime member gave you the opportunity to enjoy free deliveries, that will no longer be the case if you are purchasing from Whole Foods. This will be applicable as from the 25th of October.

The grocery retailer just sent an email to members last week saying it will start charging a $9.95 fee on all home deliveries from its stores. The firm took this decision after conducting a six-market test Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Manchester, NH, Portland, ME, and Providence during the summer. It advanced that doing so will allow it to sell groceries on the Web for the same price as in-store and it would help cover the costs associated with the service, including investments in equipment and technology.

However, if you wish to keep shopping online from Whole Foods and do not want to pay for the delivery, you can choose to pick up the order in-store or via curbside collection. Moreover, the chain will keep offering free one-hour pickup for Prime members.

As expected, shoppers are unhappy about this decision since they pay Amazon $119 annually to enjoy such benefits and the e-commerce giant has been diminishing the perks. They took to social media to express their emotions.
