Amazon and Starbucks open a cashierless coffee shop

Like its grocery stores, Amazon has decided to open a cashierless coffee shop. This is a collaboration with the giant Starbucks.

The outlet is located between New York City's Park and Lexington avenues and it is equipped with the ‘Just Walk Out Shopping’ technology to allow clients to just pick up their coffee, tea and snacks and leave without stopping at a cashier to settle the bill.

This is a new concept store that features both Starbucks and Amazon products. As such, besides picking up a drink, you can use the e-commerce giant’s Shopping app to use an "In-Store Code" or Amazon One to enter the Go market and the store’s seating lounge. The latter works via biometric identification, so you just have to use the palm of your hand as identifier. After, that you can pick snacks from the shelves. They will be added automatically to your virtual carts. Some of the staples available there are sandwiches, salads, bakery items, breakfast foods and sous vide egg bites.

According to reports, Starbucks intends to open two more of these concept stores. The next opening is planned for 2022 in Times Square. This project is part of the giant’s transformative strategy to offer its clients a more convenient way of getting their favourite drinks.
