There is no
denying the fact that e-commerce has become a huge part of our life.
Now, people purchase mostly everything on the Web, even groceries. Indeed,
during the pandemic, many have adopted the habit of buying food and other
essential items on the Internet and according to predictions, this trend is
here to stay.
A report
titled “Food Marketing Institute’s U.S. Grocery Shopper Trends 2021” advanced
that 62% of consumers order groceries on the Web occasionally. In February
2020, the number recorded was 34%. Moreover, 29% of those using these digital
services do so once a week or more. The research also showed that online
grocery shopping increased among all age groups. 78% of Gen Z, 88%
of millennials, 36% of boomers, and 34% of mature shoppers do so occasionally.
This change
is undeniably a result of the pandemic. During lockdowns, even those who were
not accustomed to such facilities were forced to give them a go. Eventually,
they became aware of how convenient and simple the process is and as research
shows, they will continue to enjoy the benefits for quite some time. Moreover,
other consumer habits have emerged. For instance, shoppers are now more
health-conscious and aware of the impact of e-commerce on the environment.
