eBay is asking UK sellers to make listings more accessible

Considering that online shopping is set to increase, eBay is trying to make things easier for consumers. The marketplace is asking sellers in the UK to make changes in their listings to make them more accessible.

Merchants have been requested to review the way they list and describe products so that people with disabilities do not experience difficulties to learn about the items on offer. To help them out, the e-commerce giant has put forward the following recommendations:

·        Avoid small font sizes,

·        Use plain language that is descriptive,

·        Avoid light colours in text,

·        Avoid animations or keep them simple.

eBay has taken this decision as part of an initiative called Purple Tuesday. On the occasion, it put out a press release saying that this day “is an international call to action focused on changing the shopping experience for disabled people. It calls on organisations from all sectors and sizes, to take decisive practical actions to meet the needs of disabled customers”. The Chief Marketing Officer of eBay UK said that this is an important move since their aim is to create economic opportunity for all, and accessibility is a fundamental pillar of that. They wish to constantly evolve and adapt their site to ensure that everyone is included in the online shopping process.
