Walmart introduces live shopping events to attract customers

To make shopping more convenient and to attract more customers, Walmart is introducing more ways to shop online. It is rolling out more than 30 livestreaming events for the festivities. One of them will even involve the musician Jason Derulo!

Throughout the past years, the retail giant has been testing shoppable events on different types of social media platforms. The first livestream was held in December 2020 when it had a holiday shop-along. It also enlisted influencers to host a spring beauty event on TikTok and there were others on Facebook and the likes. Following their success, the firm has decided to focus on these and to make them a bigger part of its digital strategy.

The artist Jason Derulo will host an event that will kick off Cyber Week. This will be held on Twitter and it will mark the platform’s first shoppable livestream. Lasting approximately 30 minutes, it will highlight gift items across categories, from apparel and seasonal decor to electronics. There will be special surprise guests as well.

The Chief Marketing Officer of Walmart, William White, said, “If you think about the number of livestreams that we’ll be doing, the number of social commerce partners that we have, we’re really building scale at this point”.
