Introducing another measure to protect the environment, Tesco has
decided to change the packaging of its grated cheese. This will now come in a polyethylene (PE) monolaminate structure
developed by Coveris. According to both firms, this is fully
recyclable, in contrast to triple-ply nylon laminate, which was previously used
and is one of the hardest materials to recycle. Additionally, the new solution chosen
by Tesco has built-in
barrier properties, matches current shelf-life requirements and maintains
packing line efficiencies. It is expected that this switch will help to remove
around 411 tonnes of plastic into a dedicated recycling stream per year.
