Mobile phones and payment facilities: are they accessible to women?

Would you believe that eighty-three per cent of grown-up adults living in developing economies own a  mobile phone? This relatively high number collected by Fresh Gallup World Poll, shows the progress of the worldwide population as telephones usually aim at enhancing connections with people, job openings and more.

It is needless to emphasize the urge for one to have a mobile nowadays as literally all your finances can be catered and monitored using your mobile wallet facility, also referred to as a mobile money account. This contactless financial management way was majorly in boost in Sub-Saharan Africa while a decent number of citizens still go for a traditional banking system.

However, further data analysis has revealed a gap between men and women mobile ownership, which amount to eighty-six and seventy-nine percent, respectively, meaning a seven per cent general gap. This is not the biggest difference. Fifteen percent in countries like Bangladesh, Egypt and India can be seen as still too much for a 2022 society!

Indeed, as we are growing into a digitalized age, the convenience and privacy that comes with using mobile money accounts, hence a digital wallet rather than carrying actual bills, appears more secure and responsible for all!
