As advanced in a previous article, PepsiCo has been using artificial intelligence and machine
learning to enhance the way its various businesses operate. For instance, it
has implemented Snackbot, a delivery robot that allows students of the
University of Pacific to order snacks and beverages from certain areas on the
campus. Moreover, Frito-Lay a subsidiary of the firm uses these technologies to
determine the quality of the chips it produces. This post will look at Robot
Vera, another application of these innovations.
Robot Vera was used for the first time by PepsiCo to phone and interview
candidates for open positions in sales, as drivers or to fill factory vacancies
in Russia. HR professionals needed to look for candidates for 250 jobs in two
months. As such, the machine was developed by the Russian startup Stafory. It
can interview 1500 people in 9 hours. This task would usually take human nine
weeks. It is equipped with advanced speech recognition and software
tools from Amazon, Google and Microsoft. It can make calls to screen candidates
for open positions and it can scan CVs to determine if someone has the right
experience for the post. Moreover, Robot
Vera can respond to yes and no answers, ask follow-up questions and
send out correspondence. However, human candidates took some time to adapt to
the machine.
