The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is testing a contactless payment pilot that will
allow riders to pay their fare on selected New York City subway and bus routes
via an innovative method. Commuters will be able to use FitBit wearables to process transactions. The devices that are
eligible are the Charge 3 Special Edition, the Versa Special Edition and the Fitbit
Ionic wearables. Those who have enabled payments on these devices will have the
opportunity to tap-to-pay on public transit rides. The pilot test will
include Staten Island buses and 4, 5 and 6 subway
lines between the Grand Central stop and Atlantic Avenue Barclays
Centre stop in downtown Brooklyn.
