The retail sector is a very competitive one. A lot of
outlets are implementing promotional deals to attract a maximum number of
consumers. According to a poll, which is based on the criteria of ‘value for
money’, Aldi has been recognised as
the cheapest grocer for weekly shopping in the UK.
‘The Grocer’s’ weekly price comparison has revealed that the
cost of a basket of goods at German discounter was approximately £5 less than
Big 4 grocer Asda. Aldi’s total shopping cart was estimated to be £36.73. This
is £4.47 cheaper than Asda where the
price was at £41.20. The study disclosed that the German firm offered the
lowest rates for 30 out of the 33 items purchased. ‘The Grocer’ advanced that “Guest
retailer Aldi claimed a convincing pricing win in the final week of the Grocer
33 year, its fourth win from four appearances over the past 12 months”. The
analysis showed that Morrisons was in the third position with an average
shopping basket value of £45.44. It was followed by Tesco at £47.19 and
Sainsbury’s at £47.71.
Speaking about this, the head of buying at Aldi
said, “This result shows that yet again we are Britain’s lowest-priced
supermarket, which is a key reason why more than a million new shoppers have
switched to Aldi from more expensive supermarkets during the last 12 months”.
