Further expanding its offerings, Amazon has revealed that it
is going to allow customers to process utility
bill payments via its Amazon Pay feature.
Quite recently, the firm’s CEO had said that they saw this
sector of the settlement industry as a huge opportunity since 70% of consumers
are not enrolled in automatic payment systems to settle their bills. As such, during
a Sunday keynote at the Money 20/20 financial technology conference, the
e-commerce giant revealed that it will be partnering with a fintech firm to introduce this new
feature. Customers will be able to pay online or even use the voice assistant
Alexa.
Moreover, this solution will even send users reminders. They
will receive notifications about when their bill is due through Alexa.
They can ask the system questions on bill amounts and compare the charges to
that of the previous months. It is expected that the firm will reach 95% of ZIP
codes with this feature by the end of the year. Consumers might learn about it
through Amazon
itself or via a partnering utility company. After that, they just have to
connect their accounts to pay their bills. This system would also help utility
companies that often receive calls from customers asking basic information
about bill amounts.
