Those who were thinking in investing into the Fyrtur smart blinds from Ikea will be
interested to learn about the following news. According to a tweet by the firm,
they are not going to be compatible with Apple’s Homekit until early 2020. The
exact date has not been revealed yet.
The Fyrtur blinds can be operated by its owner remotely and
a timer can even be set to open and close them automatically. These innovative
home accessories can already be bought at a retail price starting at $129 each.
They can be controlled from remote locations with Ikea’s Smart Home app. Moreover,
they were supposed to be compatible with Amazon
Alexa, Google Assistant, and HomeKit. Nonetheless, that is not the case.
Support for Alexa is not available at all. Those using Google Assistant
will have to get the TRÅDFRI gateway and the IKEA Home Smart app to support
compatibility. However, for the other two brands, the website advanced, “Apple
HomeKit and Amazon Alexa support will also be available later on”.
This is not the first issue that the Swedish company has had
with the smart
blinds. It could not be released in spring as scheduled in the US.
It was only in October that it became available at selected stores.
