As previously discussed, Amazon has rolled out hand recognition payment systems at Whole
Foods stores. However, it is being hinted that the tech giant might soon expand
this technology to other outlets.
This solution allows consumers to authenticate settlements
with the palm of their hands. The e-commerce giant has revealed that it is
working on hand-based checkout
terminals for not just Whole Foods. Instead, it is going to sell the system to coffee
shops, fast-food restaurants and other stores that have a lot of repeat
customers. Additionally, more details on how this solution works have been
shared.
According to reports, it would, first of all, link your payment
card to your hand. This would be done by asking you to insert your card and
scan your hand. Once this is done, the plastic would not be needed for future
transactions. The data collected would be stored by Amazon’s cloud.
Despite the fact that this authentication system might seem
incredibly easy and quick, customers might have some reservations about it. For
instance, they might not be comfortable sharing their biometric and payment
information. Additionally, Amazon
must introduce strong security measures to protect clients from thefts and
frauds. However, it is still new. So only time will tell if it will become
popular.
