For the first time ever, Android Auto will be accessible through motorcycles. This is thanks
to a collaboration between Google and Harley-Davidson.
This system will have the same functionalities as the ones
equipped in cars. For instance, after connecting an Android smartphone via a
USB cable, riders will be able to access navigation, calls and music streaming
options. Additionally, the Android Auto can be controlled through Google Assistant and the screen on the
motorcycle.
As part of the launch of this system, it will be equipped on
‘The Touring’, ‘CVO’, and ‘Trike’ at the beginning. Harley-Davidson will
soon include this feature in all of its models with its Boom! Box GTS
infotainment system in 2021. This system is not the first voice-assistant on
the firm’s motorcycles. Some of the vehicles have the Apple CarPlay option
since 2018.
This collaboration between Google and Harley-Davidson is
another step towards voice-assistants being accepted by the general population;
it will become truly ubiquitous on the road. According to a research, nearly
75% of drivers will use one by 2022. As such, there is a lot of competition
among firms. Alexa and Google
Assistant are both being integrated in innovative ways in vehicles.
For instance, there is a new wireless version of Android Auto under testing.
