E-commerce: customer
behaviour is changing the game
The current pandemic is changing the way people live, and
this also involves how they shop for products. As such, the e-commerce sector is being transformed.
It was predicted that online
retail sales will reach $6.5 trillion by 2023. The e-shopping industry was
already thriving. However, ever since the outbreak, the rate at which people
are buying on the Web has considerably increased. The situation is such that
even the largest retailers are struggling to keep up with the number of orders
and to meet customer demands without compromising with quality.
The retail intelligence firm Stackline has analysed
online sales across the US and has revealed that as consumers are coming to
terms with their new living conditions, they have changed the way they shop for
items to suit their needs. While many countries have reported that panic buying
has decreased, customers are continuing to stock up on supplies or “pandemic
pantry products”. Additionally, since people have a lot of free time at home,
they are focussing on their health. 85% of consumers taking up some kind of
exercise while in social
isolation and 40% of them are going to keep this up even after
things get back to normal. This change in behaviour has also impacted on sales.
