Internet of Things will have 83 billion connections by 2024

It seems as if the Internet of Things is finally being accepted. According to a new report, by 2024, there will be a total of 83 billion connections. This is an increase from the current number which is 35 billion. As such, there will be a growth of 130% throughout the next four years.

The study was carried out by Juniper Research which revealed that the industrial sector is the main driver of this growth. According to its forecasts, this expansion will be a result of the increasing use of private networks that leverage cellular networks standards. This particular industry, including manufacturing, retail, and agriculture, will account for more than 70% of all IoT connections by 2024.

The firm released a report titled, “The Internet of Things: Consumer, Industrial & Public Services 2020-2024”. Along with the previous findings, it also revealed that there is a recent increase in demand for private LTE networks. This will carry forward to private 5G networks since the price of this new tech is going to decrease over the next two years.

Nonetheless, Internet of Things connections are becoming increasingly complex. As such, new platforms must be implemented to ensure security across all layers of the ecosystem. These include devices, connectivity, and the infrastructure itself.
