OpenTable allows consumers to reserve supermarket times

Considering the current crisis, consumers across the world are encouraged to practise social and physical distancing. As such, OpenTable has developed a tool that will let you reserve shopping times in supermarkets. This will help decrease overcrowding and will increase security.

The new tool will give you the opportunity to select a vacant time slot and join a wait list at supermarkets and other essential businesses with which the firm has collaborated. It will be as if you are setting up a reservation at a restaurant. Currently, those using this feature will be able to purchase products from seven partners in Los Angeles and San Francisco. These are six dining outlets turned into pop-up markets and one local grocery store. Moreover, OpenTable has revealed that it is negotiating with other retailers.

Right now, grocery stores are experiencing significant strain. Being part of essential services, they can receive a high number of customers at a time, which can be dangerous. As such, businesses, like Walmart, have introduced special shopping hours that will allow clients of over 60 years old to shop 60 minutes earlier than the rest of the population. Thanks to OpenTable’s tool, supermarkets and other outlets can create a safer environment for shoppers getting essential household products.
