On the 9th of April, a pop-up market shop will open in front of the Local to Ludlow
headquarters in Castle Square. This outdoor store will be selling goods from
stallholders that usually attend the local Produce Market.
It will be accessible to the public as from 9am to 2pm. The
market manager Tish Dockerty has advanced that, “We need to keep these small
food and drink producers going through this extreme situation, sales have just
plummeted since the lockdown, especially since it was announced the markets are
to close”. To ensure that shoppers’ can purchase products without putting
themselves at risk, the store will respect strict social distancing rules.
Moreover, settlements will be carried out via contactless cards only. Consumers will have to bring their own bag.
If this venture is successful, the shop will open once a week.
Several traders have already confirmed that their products
will be available at the pop-up store. These are Perry Wood Farm which
sells lamb and mutton, Augernick Fruit Farm offering seasonal fruit and cobnut
or appleTeme with apple juice. Others are Pentre Farm (vegetarian food),
Shropshire Honey, Matty’s Delices (bread and baked goods), Shropshire Salumi,
Lizzies Layers and Hundred House Coffee.
Several stallholders are also offering free
delivery services to motivate people to move beyond traditional
methods when buying products.
