As a result of the current pandemic, the retailer River Island has announced that it is
going to temporarily close its distribution centre in Milton Keynes.
The firm has advanced that it is planning for a temporary
closure and all the necessary steps will be completed soon. While existing
orders will be fulfilled but new purchases conducted on the Web will not be
processed until the distribution centre
opens again. Moreover, River Island has also closed its physical stores. The
firm’s CEO Will Kernan has advanced that he is proud of the staff’s dedication
and efforts in response of the huge challenges that the retail industry is
facing. However, this difficult decision was taken to protect the health of
employees which is crucial in the long-term success of the business. He says, “I
am saddened that this decision will have an impact on customers and partners
and apologise for the inconvenience that they will experience until we re-open”.
There has been no announcement yet on when the distribution
centre will become operational again. However, River
Island is working so that this happens as soon as possible while
still following government’s regulations to ensure safety. Meanwhile, customers
are encouraged to join its online social community where they will
receive regular updates.
