Social isolation can be hard for some people. To help them
feel less lonely, a start-up called twine
has released an app. This project has been in the works for approximately
six months already. However, its launch is very convenient right now since individuals
are being cut off from family and friends because of the pandemic.
The application is described as “Zoom for meeting new people”.
It offers a group video chat
experience during which users are encouraged to have meaningful conversations
to create friendships. Twine matches individuals with four other partners who
are going to have 1-to-1 discussion for eight minutes apiece. The whole
gathering will last for a total of 40 minutes. This includes a virtual guide
portion during which the ground rules are set.
Participants will have to choose from a library of more than
250 “deep” questions. They will then be matched with partners who wish to
explore the same topics. After that, they are going to RSVP for twine’s digital
gatherings in their time zone and check when they have to start. The
experience is meant to help people find connections during social
isolation by skipping the small talk and going straight to what
matters. However, the focus is on friendship and not dating.
