For the first time in three months, some Greggs stores in Wales have reopened
their doors. The bakery chain has resumed operations at 800 outlets in the UK
and at just over 50 in Wales.
To ensure the security of both customers and employees, a
number of safety measures have been
implemented. For instance, there are floor markings, staff members have to wear
protective clothes and screens at counters have been put in place. Moreover, to
maintain social distancing in the kitchens and workspaces, there will be
a reduced menu. Greggs is aware that sales will remain subdued because fewer
customers will be allowed in stores at one time. Nonetheless, there were some
queues at the site in Leckwith, Cardiff.
However, sadly, some of its employees will have to stay in
furlough until sales levels begin returning to normal since the fall in
business has had an extremely negative impact on the firm. Its chief executive
Roger Whiteside said, “Looking forward, although great uncertainty remains, we
are excited to be resuming our service for many customers this week”. He also
advanced that Greggs
is confident in its ability to adapt to market conditions in the short term
while it continues to invest in its long-term growth. More outlets will be
reopened in July.
