Retail: more details on fitting rooms and precautions to take

A previous article advanced that non-essential retail stores have to follow various guidelines from the government to make sure that they are operating in a safe way. For instance, clothing outlets have to close their fitting rooms.

Nonetheless, some retailers like clothing and homeware brand Gant at St Pancras International has decided to open one of their fitting rooms but with the necessary precautions. There will always be a member of staff monitoring the cabinet so that they can control the number of clients entering. The use of anti-bacterial gel is mandatory and items that do not get purchased will be placed into the spare changing rooms and quarantined for 72 hours before being displayed in the store again. Moreover, everything will be cleaned after each use.

When visiting retail outlets, you must be mindful of other regulations that must be followed by shoppers. For example, have a face mask and some sanitiser on hand, keep your distance from other buyers and workers and be prepared to wait in lines.

Other measures implemented by shops may include one-way systems, 2m distance markings, perspex screens at checkout, contactless click & collect pickups, cashless payments, extended return periods and quarantining items that have been returned, tried on or touched.
