Online shopping: consumers have lower expectations regarding deliveries

With the sudden growth of online shopping and the increase in consumer demands, firms have been introducing new technologies so that they are able to keep up with expectations and to ship products within a reasonable time frame. Nonetheless, if you have bought on the Web recently, you do know that finding a delivery slot is a bit difficult and there are undeniable delays.

According to a survey conducted among 2000 UK adults by the PFS, consumer expectations with regards to rapid shipping has considerably decreased because of the coronavirus pandemic. Before the outbreak of the virus, 90% of clients hoped that their online purchases will arrive within one week, 36% expected them to come in three to five days and 29% in two days or less. After Covid-19, only 71% of e-shoppers presumed that their goods will be shipped in a week.

Several factors have slowed down the shipping process for e-commerce purchases. One of them is definitely the drastic growth in the number of people buying online. Moreover, there is the fact that firms have to take extra steps to ensure the security of both their employees and clients. For instance, Amazon has new safety and prioritisation protocols. The giant is giving more importance to the processing and shipping of essential items such as groceries and medical supplies.
