Despite the fact that the coronavirus is a threat to its
business, Screwfix has announced
that it is going to open 30 more stores across the UK and 10 in the Republic of
Ireland. This will lead to the creation of more than 400 jobs which is good
news for those looking for work.
Owned by Kingfisher,
the DIY giant has revealed that 300 of these new positions will be based in
England. These openings show that there is an increasing demand for
convenience, despite the challenges brought about by pandemic. The firm has
been steadily growing over the past decade. It opened at least 50 stores each
year.
By the end of January 2021, the United Kingdom will see the
creation of jobs in areas such as retail management, service assistants
and supervisor roles. Along the same time frame, 10 outlets in Ireland will
generate up to 160 positions.
During the coronavirus lockdown, Screwfix was listed an
essential retailer and it kept trading as normal. Extra protection was
introduced in its stores. For instance, all workers had PPE equipment and
perspex screens were installed at tills. The firm’s chief executive John Mewett
said, “I am incredibly proud of all Screwfix
colleagues for their support in continuing to provide our customers with the
products they need to keep homes warm, safe and with power”.
