Morrisons has announced changes to its supermarket

During this weekend, some changes will be made in Morrisons supermarkets, and they will be quite noticeable.

For instance, if you head into a store on Sunday, you will notice that there is not much noise around. This is because, as revealed, the firm will be introducing ‘quieter hours’ on the last days of the week. Thus, there will be no music, checkout beeps or PA announcements for the first hour of shopping, that is for stores opening at 10am, this will be as from 10 to 11am. On Saturdays, it will be as from 9am to 10am.

According to Morrisons, this idea was first introduced in 2018 after customers affected by autism complained that they could not shop conveniently in noisy and busy environments. Following appreciation from many clients, this project is going to be expanded.

What will change during ‘quieter hours’? The shop will:

·         Dim the lights,

·         Turn off music and radio,

·         Avoid making tannoy announcements,

·         Reduce movements of trolleys and baskets,

·         Turn checkout beeps and other electrical noises down, and

·         Place a poster outside to tell clients it's Quieter Hour.

David Potts, the Chief Executive at Morrisons advanced that “The introduction of the quieter hours has been appreciated by many customers who prefer to shop in a calmer environment”.
