As advanced in a previous article, UK Research and Innovation is spending £29 million on digital
revolution in the UK. £7 million of this will be used for a National Research
Centre on Privacy, Harm Reduction and Adversarial Influence online (REPHRAIN)
that will focus on e-security and data protection.
The remaining £22 million will be utilised to fund five Next Stage Digital Economy Centres,
delivered by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC),
that will explore how technology can be used to safely to enhance people’s
lives. Have a look at them below:
CAMERA 2.0
This is going to be led by the University of Bath and will look into how 3D
cameras and artificial intelligence can be used to improve participants’
health and deliver education or training in virtual environments. Skills learnt
during these sessions will then be transferred to real-life situations.
The Centre for Digital Citizens (CDC)
Newcastle and Northumbria Universities are going to be responsible for this
research centre. Its aim is to design new digital technologies and services
that will bring about a ‘smarter
living’ concept. It will explore how shared data can be leveraged
more efficiently to inform public health and wellbeing, community engagement
including citizen-led public services and technology enhanced learning
opportunities for the old and the young.
