Trying to increase the speed at which it processes orders, McDonald’s has decided to leverage
several digital innovations. These will ensure that clients are able to pick up
their food more conveniently.
First of all, the fast food giant is testing various new
ideas at its 25,000 global drive-thru locations. For instance, it is automating
the ordering and payment process by identifying customers at the display
screen. Another feature will notify employees to start prepping orders when
consumers are nearby and there will be dedicated parking spaces. These will
ensure that the collection is done quickly.
An innovation being tested by McDonald’s is the new express drive-thru
lane. This allows customers to use its mobile app to order. Thus, they do
not have to wait in lines to get their food. Stores trialling this system are
going to deliver orders via conveyor belt. To make sure that the technologies
used are always up-to-date, the firm has formed a new, internal, integrated
team called McD Tech Labs. Based in
Silicon Valley. It will focus on enhancing tech for use in the drive-thru.
Additionally, McDonald’s
is testing a smaller restaurant footprint named “On-the-Go. This will place
more importance on takeaway and delivery. Dine-in facilities are limited.
