Ikea will no longer have catalogues in its stores

A lot of firms, in their own way, are introducing new ideas in bid to reduce plastic and waste and become more environmentally friendly. For instance, M&S is encouraging customers to bring their own containers to purchase dry products such as pasta. For its part, Ikea has just announced that it is going to remove paper catalogues from all its stores in the UK.

Considering that online shopping is on the rise, this seems to be a logical step. Introduced way back in 1951, these physical copies that offered details on the furniture giant’s products will not be available. The last print was this summer.  A digital version of this brochure was first rolled out in 2000 and in 2001, the firm launched its first e-commerce website for Swedish and Danish shoppers.

Speaking about this decision, Konrad Gruss, managing director of Inter Ikea Systems, advanced, “For both customers and co-workers, the Ikea catalogue is a publication that brings a lot of emotions, memories and joy” and that “turning the page on [the] beloved catalogue is in fact a natural process since media consumption and customer behaviours have changed”. Nonetheless, the fact remains that the firm’s most attractive feature is the uniqueness of their products and they will keep looking for new ways to reach out to clients.
