Retail: supermarket rules at Aldi and Lidl

With a national lockdown reinstated in the UK to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, essential retail stores are implementing new rules. Let us have a look at the changes in grocery outlets.

Aldi
The firm has a traffic lights system to control the number of customers going in and out of its stores. It is also urging consumers to visit its outlets at quieter times. It should be noted that the busiest periods are usually between 11am and 3pm. Moreover, every Monday to Saturday, Aldi will open 30 minutes earlier. This time-frame is dedicated to the elderly and to vulnerable customers to ensure that they can purchase products in a safe environment. Face coverings are mandatory, unless the shopper is medically exempt and a large proportion of its SpecialBuys are deemed as essential items. Nonetheless, some products have been removed.

Lidl
This supermarket company also has a traffic lights system. This will allow customers to find the quietest times to shop. Moreover, there will be strict social distancing measures in place. At the bakery section, tongs will no longer be used. Instead there will be disposable gloves available. Additionally, Lidl is urging clients to only handle the products that they intend to purchase to limit the transfer of germs.
