Besides ramping up for e-commerce expansions, businesses are
transforming their physical operations as well. This is in a bid to attract
more customers to their stores since consumer demands have evolved since the
outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. For instance, Asda is planning to introduce some changes to its outlets.
Last year, Mohsin and Zuber Issa took over the supermarket
business. They have announced that they are going to transform the way things
are right now. First of all, they will reduce food aisles in the stores. These
will be decreased by approximately 25% which will leave space for other
ventures such as cafés. According to the Sunday Times, there will even by hair
salons and nail bars in the supermarkets.
Throughout the pandemic, Asda stores have been welcoming customers as an
essential retailer.
The Mirror advances that these changes are part of a plan to
keep people shopping for longer periods of time and to boost overall spending
on the high street. Asda
has already been making space in its outlets for third party concessions such
as Claire's Accessories and The Entertainer and it also has its own
in-house Covid-19 vaccination centres. Nonetheless, it should be noted that any
proposals are subject to the clearance from the competition and markets
authority (CMA).
