The video-sharing app TikTok
has become extremely popular. It is being used by more than one billion
people. To help it better compete with rivals, the firm is planning to add a
new feature to the application: a group chat tool.
It parent company Bytedance has advanced that this
addition will facilitate social interaction among users. The Chinese version of
TikTok, Douyin, already has such a feature. It was introduced in 2019. This new
tool is being rolled out in the hope that it will encourage users, which
consists primarily of teenagers and young adults, to spend more time on the app
and connect better with influencers. This, of course, will help boost TikTok’s social commerce and livestream services.
The video-sharing company has been rolling out several
projects to expand e-commerce on its application. For instance, it has recently
announced that it will launch an event dedicated to small and mid-size
businesses. This will be a webinar that is going to help merchants familiarise
themselves with the platform and to learn more about social selling. Moreover,
in 2020, TikTok
collaborated with Shopify. This partnership pushed Facebook to announce that it
is doubling down on social commerce and is going to add new features for
contextual shoppers.
