Just seven months ago, the world’s largest retailer launched
the Walmart+ membership program.
Within that short span of time, the app has attracted millions of customers. To
be more precise, it has built a base of over 60 million US consumers.
This is a paid service which costs $98-per-year. It allows users
to benefit from online delivery,
in-store savings and convenience offerings. According to a study conducted
among more than 15,500 shoppers, the membership program regained nearly all of
its paid users that it shed in December when its free trial membership expired
after the holidays. Additionally, the number of members using an account paid
for by somebody else, a spouse or relative, also witnessed a steady growth
during the first three months of this year.
Why are shoppers flocking towards this service? One of the
key drivers is the fact that Walmart is a leading firm when it comes to grocery
stores. Since it has over 5000 outlets in the US, it is able to offer consumers
more convenience. The data show that when produce and other essentials are
involved, the supermarket firm’s pricing advantage and its in-store and curbside
pickup options are attracting people to its membership
program. It seems that Amazon has some serious competition to deal with.
