Gousto recipe boxes produce less carbon than supermarket products

If you are concerned about the environment and you wish to take more steps to help protect it, you will be pleased to learn about the recipe boxes from Gousto. Studies have revealed that they do less harm to our surroundings.

Findings from the environmental company Foodsteps showed that they release 23% less carbon emissions than equivalent meals from supermarket stores. Thanks to a short supply chain and reduced food waste, each Gousto order is able to save up to 7kg of carbon dioxide emissions. In 2020, in the year which the firm made its maximum number of sales, it could save 40,000 tonnes of CO2e. This is the equivalent of removing 4,905 cars from the road for a year.

Moreover, another study by Informed Sustainability Consulting revealed that every Gousto order saves an average of 2kg of food waste. As such, last year, the UK was able to save 784,000 bins of waste just via the recipe boxes. This is because the firm send fresh and precise ingredients for dinners weekly. As such, there is almost zero food waste in homes and fulfilment centres as well.

Moreover, Gousto has recently collaborated with FareShare to ensure that surplus food that safe for consumption is distributed among people in need.
