One of the apps that has become extremely popular during the
quarantine is TikTok. Now it has a
new record: it has surpassed 3 billion downloads globally.
This was revealed by a study conducted by Sensor Tower. The research advances that
it was the most downloaded and highest-grossing non-game app across the world
in the first half of 2021. During that time frame, it reached 383 million
first-time installs and an estimated $919.2 million in consumer spending. In
the second quarter of the year, it experienced its greatest
quarter-over-quarter growth in the same category. This represents an increase
of 39 percent to $534.6 million.
TikTok is the first non-Facebook app that achieved this. The
firm has had surprising popularity across the globe, considering the fact that
several governments have been threatening to ban it and it has actually been
removed from India which was its biggest market.
According to the Sensor Tower study, the mobile app
is the fifth non-game application to join a tier that has historically been the
exclusive domain of Facebook. The app
kept growing even if it has been facing competition from others. For instance,
Instagram launched features that are similar to TikTok. Besides the video-sharing app, only WhatsApp,
Messenger, Facebook and Instagram achieved this mark.
