For quite a long time, Facebook, and other apps that it
owns, have been dominating the charts when it comes to the maximum number of
downloads. According to a research from App Annie TikTok has beaten this record in 2020.
According to the digital analytics company, the
video-sharing firm is the only application not owned by Facebook to make the global top five of downloads. Ever since the
survey started in 2018, the latter had been dominating the charts except for
last year. The growth of TikTok has taken many by surprise, especially
considering that the Trump had been trying to ban the app in the US. After TikTok,
the rest of the charts is dominated by Mark Zuckerberg’s apps such as Facebook,
WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.
To attract more users, TikTok has been trying several new
tools. For instance, it started trialling a new vanishing clips feature that is
similar to functions on Snapchat, Facebook or Instagram. These allow
users to see content posted by accounts for 24 hours before they disappear.
This means that the uploads will be in ‘Stories’ format. This move comes after WhatsApp
rolled a feature that automatically removes photos or videos after the person
has seen it.
