A couple of weeks back, Amazon
announced that it plans to hire 2500 more people in the UK across tech,
corporate and operations. Now, keeping up with its expansion project in the US,
it is looking for 25,000 more workers there.
The firm has advanced that there are a number of sign-on
bonuses available within logistics operations. In July, the company’s workforce
in the United States was 950,000 and it is planning to boost that. The e-commerce giant advanced that roles in
warehousing and transportation offer an average starting wage of more than $18
(£13) per hour. In some areas, up to $22.50 will be given.
With more people using online shopping services
during lockdowns, Amazon has seen a significant increase in consumer demand. In
the second quarter of the year, it posted a 27% leap in net sales to $113.1
billion.
This strategy is similar to that adopted by Amazon in the
United Kingdom. In August, the Evening Standard advanced that the firm was
offering £1,000 ‘golden hellos’ to new warehouse workers in the UK. These are
attempts to fight the prevailing recruitment
crisis in the country. This shortage did not come at a right time
since online shopping is thriving and more employees are needed to fulfil
orders.
