A collaboration between Ray-Ban and Facebook has seen the introduction of the latter’s own smart
glasses. While this might seem to be exciting news, users have mixed reactions
about it.
The tech is called ‘Ray-Ban
Stories’. It gives those wearing it the opportunity to experience a new way
to capture photos and videos and to share adventures, listen to music and even
make phone calls. In simple terms, it is a wearable device that will allow you
to remain connected to your social life.
It should be noted that the technology that both firms have
used to build the smart glasses are not entirely new. In fact, they have
been around for approximate a decade and they do not have the same capacities
as augmented reality glasses that are used in some sectors. However, the social
media giant is working on the latter as well.
This is proven by project Aria, which is a new research
project that will help Facebook Reality Labs build the first generation of
wearable augmented reality devices. It was reported that the firm plans to
collect the data needed to develop the hardware and software by having its
employees use them. In August last year, the social media company advanced that
it is going to focus more on augmented
reality applications.
