To support those in need, Aldi has introduced a new scheme in stores across the UK. It has
set up community donation points in all of its UK branches.
As from October, you will see them placed near the packing
benches. They are for customers who wish to donate any food or household products
to local good causes. They can even give things that were not purchased from
Aldi. All donations will be distributed to charities, food banks and community
groups that are part of the surplus food donation
scheme on selected days via community giving platform Neighbourly.
Aldi has also revealed the items that are most in-demand to
help guide customers who wish to help. Some of them are coffee, cereal, fruit
juice, tinned meat, pasta/cooking sauce, tea, tinned fruit, uht milk, tinned
tomatoes, tinned vegetables, rice, pasta, biscuits, lentils/beans/pulses, baby
food and others.
This project is part of Aldi's
commitment to donate 10m meals across the country in 2021. The supermarket
company has already been working with Neighbourly to donate surplus food
from stores every day. The managing director of corporate responsibility Mary
Dunn said: "This year we are committed to donating more meals to those in
need than ever before and we know that our customers want to help too”.
