With augmented reality becoming so popular, several firms are adopting this technology, either to showcase their products, to offer a better digital experience or to create more interesting contents. To facilitate things for users and to help creators navigate this tech, Facebook is working on a new mobile app.
The
application was revealed at the firm’s AR/VR-focused event called Connect.
Designed for iOS devices, it is named Polar and it allows creators to
build their own augmented reality filter for Facebook and Instagram. It is
powered by the Spark AR platform. Thanks to this application, users will not
experience difficulties when creating filters. They will be able to do so in a
visual way using templates; a process which does not require much technical
skills in comparison to existing frameworks.
It seems
that the mobile app is in its early stages of production. According to Facebook it will be going in closed beta later on this
year. Certain creators will be handpicked to test it out and eventually, the
firm will roll it out for anyone wishing to create their own filters. It is
expected to be a free application. With videos becoming very popular on
platforms such as Instagram, this application is welcome news.
