If you are
into online shopping but you are aware of its impact on the environment,
you will be interested in a series of articles posted on the blog. It will explore
extensions for conscious shoppers.
Let’s first
look at Neutral. This is available on both Chrome and Firefox and it is useful
for those regularly buying products on Amazon. Whenever you get something from
the marketplace, the extension will generate a carbon impact report for your
purchase. It will include details such as the carbon footprint of the entire
lifecycle of the item as per CleanMetrics' Carbon Scope Data. As such, you will
be more informed about how your shopping affects the planet.
Moreover,
the tool offers you the possibility of offsetting your carbon footprint
for that particular purchase via two ways. The first one is to donate some
money by loading some cash on a prepaid wallet on Neutral. This will be used to
fund green projects. Alternatively, you can participate in one of its suggested
eco-friendly activities. For instance, to offset 29 kg of CO2, the tool recommends
that you skip meat or dairy for eight days or that you do 15 loads of laundry
with cold water. It should be noted that once you accept a challenge, Neutral will track your task.
