Asda will have greengrocers in its aisles

As part of a revamp, Asda is appointing 150 specialist greengrocers in its stores across the UK. They are expected to boost fresh produce sales.

This move is part of a £9 million investment to give customers more choice with regards to the range and quality of fresh fruit and vegetables available. Besides the new hires, existing staff will also fill the role of greengrocers. Both of them will focus exclusively on the fresh produce that Asda offers in store. They will be based on the shop floor and will be responsible for quality standards, product availability and presentation of the produce area. Moreover, they will assist customers if they need help.

To ensure that they are doing their job properly, each new greengrocer will receive specialist training in all aspects of Asda’s fresh produce operation. For instance, they will learn how and where fruit and vegetables are grown or about optimum conditions in which products should be stored and displayed to maintain freshness and quality.

Additionally, Asda is investing more in new fixtures and fittings to improve the presentation and layout of its fresh produce section and it will offer more fruit and vegetables from its Extra Special tier. This revamp will cover 150 stores in the UK.
